Soccer #3

The First FIFA World Cup

Fédération Internationale de Football Association, more commonly known as FIFA is basically a football organization that holds Soccer (football) tournaments throughout the world. This is a tournament that happens once every 4 years. The FIFA World Cup is bigger than Olympics especially for Soccer players. From the beginning till present, FIFA World Cup is becoming one of the most watched tournament even though it happens once every 4 years. So, how did it all start?? What lead to the birth of the FIFA World Cup and how did it become one of the most watched tournament??
Well, before the FIFA World Cup, there was only one tournament for Soccer players which the Olympic Football Tournament. But after the huge success of that tournament, FIFA wanted to establish a tournament specifically for Soccer. So, FIFA sent some surveys to the association. There was a meeting held to decided whether or not let FIFA organize those tournaments and finally in Amsterdam on May 28, 1928 the FIFA Congress decided to stage the World Cup which was going to be organized by none other than FIFA. So the FIFA Congress decided that the first every World Cup was going to be hosted by Uruguay. The FIFA Congress even thanked Uruguay for hosting the World Cup just because of that crises in Europe during that time period. The first World Cup was the beginning of the new era of soccer. FIFA World Cup started to become more and more popular and because of that lots of countries wanted to host the next tournament. This lead to a decrease in the popularity of the Olympic Football Tournament and due to this it was abandoned. Italy was given the honor to host the second FIFA World Cup in which there were going to be 16 teams participating. For this tournament there were no groups and there were only knockout stages meaning if one of the team lost their first match, unfortunately they were going to be out of the tournament. Italy won that World Cup by defeating Czechoslovakia at extra time. Italy won the World Cup in class by becoming the first team to win the Cup at their own home. The next World Cup was hosted by France but unfortunately France didn't fully take the home advantage and so they lost resulting in Italy successfully defending their crown. However there was a huge gap between the third and the fourth World Cup because of World War II. Due to that the fourth World Cup was staged in 1949 in Brazil.
So, what did I learn after reading this article? Well, I learned a lot of stuff from this article. First of all I learned that  how did the organization FIFA held their first ever FIFA World Cup because at first I didn't know when and where the first one was held but after reading the article, I know all that. Another interesting thing that I learned was about the second World Cup in which only 16 teams competed against each other and in which there were no group stages. This was what I never expected was going to happen because usually there are group stages in World Cup but I guess this was the first one without it. Lastly, the most important thing of all was when there was a huge gap between the third and fourth World Cup because FIFA World Cups are always held after every 4 years but just because of World War II it was delayed by a huge margin.
As time passes, the more Soccer popularity expands because nowadays FIFA is trying to promote soccer by hosting the World Cups in Asia, Middle East and Aftica. In-fact the 2010 FIFA World Cup was hosted by South Africa so that it gets promoted there and the 2018 FIFA World Cup is planned to be hosted by Qatar. So as time progresses, soccer will become popular in every single continent on this planet and there will be a time when the FIFA World Cups would lead the host country to good economic conditions just because of the vast majority of people watching it.
